Dental Health Week 2021: Keep Your Smile for Life | Canley Heights Dental Care

by | Aug 1, 2021 | Dental Health Week 2021

Dental Health Week is on 2-8 August 2021.

The 2021 Dental Health Week campaign focuses on the importance of caring for your teeth and gums to help you to keep your smile for life.

The ADA’s main oral health messages and the four key messages of the 2021 Dental Health Week campaign aim to reinforce the importance of maintaining good oral health to keep your teeth for life:

#1 Brush teeth at least twice a day with fluoride-containing toothpaste for two minutes each time

When foods, beverages, sugars, and acids remain on the teeth and gums, they can contribute to the formation of cavities.

Cavities are holes that affect the natural tooth structure and put it at risk for infection. Brushing removes these from the teeth and helps keep the smile healthy between dental visits.

#2 Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes

Flossing helps remove bacteria, plaque, and food from between your teeth, and it reduces the likelihood of tooth decay and gum disease.

#3 Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar consumption

You are what you eat — right? If you eat healthy foods, you will be nourishing your body with good, hearty foods that will boost your immune system and your dental health.

Acidic sodas and sugary candies can significantly increase the risk of developing cavities and should be enjoyed occasionally.

#4 Visit your Canley Heights dentist for check-ups and preventive dental care

During these routine appointments, patients undergo thorough teeth cleaning and an evaluation to look for signs of tooth decay or gum disease, the two conditions that can negatively impact the smile’s health.

With early detection and treatment, many of these conditions can be treated quickly and inexpensively before they become a much bigger concern.
