5 Dental Health Tips This Easter

by | Apr 7, 2022 | Easter

With Easter approaching, Canley Heights Dental Care thought a few oral health guidelines for after those sugary goodies would be a useful refresher for us all.

We all know that snacks are unavoidable this time of year, but there are a few easy things we can do to help minimize the negative influence on our dental health.

Here are 5 dental health tips to keep your teeth safe this Easter

#1. Consider alternatives to chocolate

It’s not how much you eat sugary foods that negatively impact your teeth; it’s how often you eat them.

Why not try a homemade treat? You can manage the quantity of sugar you consume by baking your baked products at home.

You’ll also have the option of using sugar replacements that are less damaging to your teeth.

#2. Chew on sugar-free gum

Chewing sugar-free gum is an excellent idea, or drink a glass of water or milk after consuming chocolate or other sweet items. This will assist in removing any sugary material from the gum line.

#3. Drink plenty of water

If you have a medical condition that causes dry mouth, you can rinse your mouth throughout the day by drinking plenty of water.

However, if no medical problem is present, your mouth may feel dry due to a lack of hydration. Your mouth may stop dry if you sip from a water bottle all day for a few days.

Don’t consume sugary drinks all day. If you do drink these beverages, restrict them to mealtimes only. If you suffer from a persistent dry mouth, you are more likely to develop cavities.

#4. Maintain good oral hygiene

Brush your teeth twice a day. Brushing your teeth softly with a soft-bristled toothbrush is essential. Too vigorous brushing can erode tooth enamel and cause gum disease.

Use a gently swabbing motion to clean every accessible surface of your teeth. Brushing your teeth should take around two or three minutes every morning and night, and you should floss thoroughly at least once every day.

Teeth enamel can be strengthened by rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash. Always brush your teeth before bedtime to avoid exposing your teeth to acids.

#5. Visit your Canley Heights dentist regularly

After Easter is gone and the candy wrappers are the last reminders of your seasonal excesses, you may want to schedule dental cleanings for the entire family.

Filling cavities when they are little preventing them from becoming large, unpleasant issues.
